My Wedding Photobook: Part 2 Yellow saree OOTD

The Guy: "Mom, Aditi is wearing a green saree!!!" (read: NOT the yellow one for which she made us run into so many stores. In reality, we only went to 3 stores in one day and I bought this)
His Mom: WHAT!! How can she wear a green saree? It's not allowed!
When I saw the guy at the reception, I jokingly told him that I changed my mind about wearing a yellow saree. The nervous bride in me was trying to be funny. Wrong timing. The even more nervous groom took it seriously and told his mom about it! His mom is the super coolest maharashtrian mom I have come across so far. Even she was not ok with me not wearing yellow during the pheras. So basically, the yellow saree is a big deal in our weddings!

Biddai Woes: To cry or not to cry

Have you Maharashtrian girls heard of Salil - Sandeep's "Damlelya Babachi kahani" song? I am sure those who have listened to it must have shed a few tears on these lines:
"sasurala jata jata umbarathya madhe
babasathi yeil ka pani dolyamadhe?"
It's a song a father is singing to his daughter. In these lines, he asks his daughter:
"While leaving our house on your wedding day,
will you have watery eyes for your dad at the doorstep?"

Vendor Review for Wedding gifts / Decor items in Meenakaari

Our families were after our lives to make us go to Mumbadevi. Most Mumbai weddings are only completed by paying a visit to goddess Mumbadevi. 8 months later we finally got a chance to go there! While I was waiting for the guy to reach there, I came across this store (Shanti Metal Industries) where there were beautiful boxes with Meenakari like painting done all over. No doubt I quickly went in to check the quality and price for you guys.

Kelvan - A Maharashtrian Wedding Ritual

"Mom, please no more Kelvan's now!", cried a bride-to-be sitting next to me. As a Maharashtrian custom, we hosted a party for my distant cousins' daughter (Yes! I was a "Maasi" even before I was born) 10 days before her wedding day. It got rescheduled several times to end up being her last Kelvan ever. My mom being an over enthusiastic host invited all the key people (over 20 people) who were supposed to work on the wedding. Consequently, a few of them didn't turn up. The rest of them were too tired to enjoy a full course buffet. The bride was so stressed out that she couldn't stop worrying about her saree delivery and her diet. To be honest, I didn't understand what she was actually going through that time. I was like whats the big deal, why crib over just a dinner! Now, after having gone through the same phase, I am thankful at least she did attend it. I feel 2-3 days before your wedding, you MIGHT be a little in your best senses. Its 10 days before the wedding while all the madness happens in a brides life! No matter how much you plan.
